Tradition (Hildegard's writings) 1

In Hildegard's tradition, horehound wine was associated with the airways.

Ingredients

White horehound, dill, fennel and mullein in equal parts; red or white wine.

Preparation 1

Chop 4 tbsp of the herb blend, boil it with 1 litre of wine for four to five minutes, pour it through a sieve and then through a tea filter, and pour into dark bottles.

Note

Keeps for about six months when stored in a cool place.

Botanical background

White horehound (Marrubium vulgare) is credited in herbal lore with expectorant properties.
