Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's stone lore, rock crystal was associated with the eyes and the front of the neck.

Preparation 1

For the traditional rock crystal wine, water or wine is poured over the sun-warmed stone; the stone then rests briefly in the liquid.

Note

Tumbled stones are best for most applications — they have no sharp edges. The stone was only ever left in place for as long as it felt pleasant.

About the stone

Hildegard explains the power of rock crystal by its origin in water and by the warmth it absorbs from the sun — a notion of medieval natural philosophy.
