Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, this herb compress was used externally for nosebleeds.

Ingredients

Dill herb and yarrow flowers and herb.

Preparation

Mix 10 g of fresh dill herb with 20 g of fresh yarrow flowers and herb.

Note

If dried herbs are used, moisten the gauze compress with wine beforehand and then bind it on.

Botanical background

Yarrow is credited with styptic and wound-caring properties — not least because of the azulene in its essential oils and its astringent tannins. Dill herb contains essential oils said to be antiseptic and antimicrobial.
