Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, and in herbal lore generally, psyllium is traditionally used to support digestion and regular bowel activity gently.

Ingredients

Psyllium (Plantago).

Note

Psyllium should be used, not linseed; 1 g of psyllium binds about 20 ml of water.

Botanical background

The mucilage in the seed husks acts as dietary fibre and supports regular digestion; in the gut it can bind water as well as toxic and putrefactive substances.
