Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, ginger powder blend was associated with the stomach and digestion.

Ingredients

Ginger, zedoary and galangal powder.

Preparation

Mix 10 g ginger powder, 5 g zedoary powder and 20 g galangal powder.

Note

Ginger is said to ease vertigo, nausea and vomiting — in travel and sea sickness as well.

Botanical background

The pungent compounds of ginger, gingerol among them, are taken up through the intestinal mucosa; they are credited with anti-inflammatory and pain-easing properties. The essential oil contains numerous active substances such as camphor, zingiberene and curcumene and is considered antimicrobial.
