Valued in Hildegard's tradition as a versatile strengthening preparation and associated with digestion and general strengthening.

Ingredients

Powder of calamus root, pellitory root and cinnamon.

Preparation

Herb mixture: 50 g calamus root powder, 25 g pellitory root powder and 25 g cinnamon powder.

Note

Hildegard's “Byverwurz” is today usually equated with calamus root, also called “German ginger”.

Botanical background

Herbal lore credits calamus (Acorus calamus) with calming and digestion-promoting properties; it has traditionally been used the world over as both a spice and a medicinal plant.
