Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, the mullein herb blend was associated with the throat and the voice in the cold season.

Ingredients

Mullein and fennel.

Preparation

Mullein wine: boil 5 tbsp of the herb mixture in 1 litre of wine for 3 minutes, strain it and keep it in a thermos flask. Herb mixture: 50 g mullein and 50 g fennel.

Botanical background

Mullein flowers contain mucilage, saponins, plant hormones and bioflavonoids. As a soothing mucilaginous herb, they have long been used in folk tradition as a mild, expectorant preparation for coughs.
