Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, the lovage compress was associated with external use on the neck (a “goitre compress”).

Ingredients

Lovage leaves, ground ivy leaves and water.

Preparation

Boil 50 g of lovage leaves and 75 g of ground ivy leaves in 250 ml of water for 3 minutes and strain the herbs off.

Note

Changes to the thyroid should always be examined by a doctor.

Botanical background

Through its plant progesterone-like substances, lovage is said to have a hormonally balancing effect.
