Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

Used for the care of hair and scalp — with dandruff, lacklustre hair and in connection with increased hair loss, and on an irritated, over-acidified scalp.

Ingredients

Plum wood ash, wine and water.

Preparation

Reduce 3 handfuls of bark and leaves of the plum tree to ash in a muffle furnace, or wrapped in aluminium foil over glowing charcoal, so that the bark does not simply burn. Crush or pulverise the ash and stir it, while still hot, into 1 litre of hot wine.

Note

Caution: strongly alkaline — dilute it 1:1 with water before use. Where the hair roots have already died off, no new growth is possible.
