Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, tansy flour was associated with the airways and with digestion.

Ingredients

Tansy leaf powder and spelt flour.

Preparation

To make your own: 1 tsp of tansy leaf powder to 2 tbsp of spelt flour. Use spring tansy leaves only — unlike the flowers, they are harmless.

Note

An average single dose is at most 2 g of dried tansy leaves; do not use during pregnancy.

Botanical background

The essential oils of tansy are credited with antimicrobial and anthelmintic properties. The medicinal plant expert Madaus mentioned tansy as early as 1938 in connection with flatulence, digestive complaints and stomach cramps.
