Product information "Powdered Gentian Root"

Gentian root powder is obtained from the dried root of gentian (Gentiana lutea). Hildegard of Bingen valued Yellow Gentian, like many other bitter plants, for its strengthening and digestive properties.

...whoever suffers from such heart pain that (they think) their life hangs by a thread, should powder yellow gentian and eat this powder in soup, and their heart will gain strength.

Hildegard of Bingen
  • Digestive: As in today's natural medicine, gentian root was valued by Hildegard primarily for its pronounced bitter compounds, which stimulate appetite and promote digestion (saliva and gastric juice production).
  • Heart-strengthening: She saw a connection between emotional suffering ("melancholy pain") and physical "heart pain" and recommended gentian for strengthening the heart in such conditions.
  • Powder form: She often recommended taking the powdered root, which is a common form of administration in Hildegard medicine to directly utilize the active compounds.
  • Part of the "Physica": Gentian root, like many other plants, is described in her extensive natural science work "Physica".

Note: Traditional use, no healing promises. Consult a doctor for complaints.
