Tradition (Hildegard's writings)

In Hildegard's tradition, fenugreek tablets (“heart pills”) were associated with the heart and circulation.

Ingredients

Galangal root powder, pellitory powder, white pepper, bean flour powder and fenugreek juice.

Preparation

Mix 6 g galangal root powder, 6 g pellitory powder, 1.5 g white pepper and 25 g bean flour powder with 12 g of fenugreek juice, form the mixture into pills and dry them in the sun.

Botanical background

Fenugreek seeds are rich in mucilage sugars, proteins, lysine, bioflavonoids and plant hormones. They are credited with blood-sugar- and cholesterol-regulating properties; they contain diosgenin, a progesterone-like phytohormone.
